The first dual rental Alimak Scando 650 XL Hoists in Australia on Icon's Opal Towers project that minimised crane downtime and maximised project efficiency

Icon Construction's Opal Tower, located in Sydney's Olympic Park is a mixed use development comprising of a residential tower with retail / commercial space, child care centre and a community centre with publicly accessible landscaped group plane. The development has a total gross floor area of 33,166 square metres. The residential tower will include a total of 36 story's with 120 square metres of retail / commercial space and 33 floors of residential apartments ranging from 1-4 bedrooms. Construction of the $155 million dollar project commenced in January 2017 and is due to be completed in July 2018. 

Icon was looking for a vertical solution for transporting materials up to 1700mm wide. The standard Alimak hoists could not accommodate this width, hence the introducing the XL hoists into the Australian rental fleet. Alimak Hek designed the hoists to be configured as a dual setup allowing one hoist to have a 2.3m C-door to accommodate larger materials and allow easy access to load and unload. The dual configuration also allowed them to move personnel as well as the larger materials. 

As per the customers request, due to the width and capacity of the dual XL setup, materials could be directly forklifted into the hoist, minimising crane downtime onsite and maximising project efficiency.
